check-in for a social good
My friends outside Latvia asked questions about the project I was advocating during this day. And I tried to summarize the idea and the possible outcome.

We all know – there are many ways to spread love and kindness. SEB bank in Latvia has excellent long term plan to help children’s SOS Villages – if you are a bank customer you can apply via internet banking system and can become a member of a support programme which means – the donation (or regular donations during the year) will be given to the SOS Children’s Villages Latvia – a social charity organization that provides a long-term, family based care for children who have lost their parents and carries out family strengthening programs.
In this weekend all my country is celebrating – Latvian state had officially been proclaimed on November 18, 1918. “Staro Riga” Light Festival is taking place these days in Riga, capital of the Latvia.
And for the short weekend of national holidays SEB bank has chosen to run their first campaign in foursquare to support SOS Children’s Villages in a different manner. You are welcome to visit a newly opened branch of the bank, check in and by doing that particular check-in you are donating – the bank will support SOS Villages once more and promised to transfer 1 lat (amount equal approx. 1.5 USD) to the NGO for each and every check-in..
The campaign will end on November 20, so if you have friends in Latvia – you should tell them about the case now!
This campaign as I see it is a great way to rise aweareness in the different group of the socially active society – foursquare users and point out the NGO in need. We remember the Pepsi charity campaign back in 2009, just today announced – jcpenney in US will be teaming with Salvation Army on foursquare and donate for the check-ins. The social good and the charity events baseed on 4sq is new facet of a foursquare.
And it’s a good one.
A fun fact – during the campaign SEB bank decorated the venue with probably the largest foursquare cling ever – it’s 1 m² = 1.1960 yd² big.
